2010 in one word (giveaway post).

Tue, Jan 12, 2010

Giveaways, MizFit Muzings

As I’ve yammered about around here myriad times before Im not a resolution maker.

I tend to choose a word or phrase which I want to define my next 365 days & simply live each day with that as a backdrop.

This year’s word, not surprisingly, is RUN.  The surprising piece, however, is the reason why.

You see, in much of my life I tend to be very Type B is there even a Type B? For sake of my post lets say yes.

Im laid back, mellow, and pretty much the least fraught-with-anxiety person you’ll meet.

While this is a great trait in some capacities (please to see Ren Man is more Type A and cross reference under We both couldnt be that way or the domicile would be crazyfrazzled) when it comes to goal achievement it can be a hindrance.

There are things I wish to accomplish this year (oooh foreshadowing. coming soon in a future post.) & which I fear Im not moving toward as quickly as I might purely because I take for granted the fact I have all the time in the world to do so.

And I dont.

None of us do.

None of us can be certain we are guaranteed anything more than the moment we are currently in.

As a result my word for this year is RUN.

In the direction of my dreams.

Toward things I might fear and not away.

And yes.  I entirely mean it in the literal sense as well

It’s a one word reminder to keep moving forward and not grow complacent where I stand today.

And, because we all know I like to wear my mantras, I choose to assume you do too.

I had the opportunity to get the ring pictured above for myself (very cool huh?) and decided to pass the opportunity & a challenge along to you.

You can be entered to win (all of ya’ll. we are talking INTERNATIONAL here) for the lowlow price of a comment below:

What one or two words would you choose to capture what you hope your 2010 will be?

Thanks so much to Tina for her generous, thought provoking giveaway (yeah, thats a bigass hint to clickclick)

The winner may choose FOCUS or any other word five letters or fewer word stamped on the rings face.   S/he may also choose two have two words on ring (each word must be 4 letters or less).

Winner announced 1.15.10

  1. Gemfit says:

    One word: YES

    Yes I can start running
    Yes I am a runner
Yes I can do this freelancing thing
Yes I will make new friends
    Yes I am a writer
YES to everything life is throwing my way.

    No more NO
    No more I CAN’T
    No more I’M SCARED

This is great. Thanks Miz and Tina.
(I think I may have to post about this epiphany)

  2. Lance says:

    Hey Miz,
I am in -I love the one-word concept.

And for me, SPLASH means a combo of fun, adventure, and action!

And guess what - in our household…I am the Type B person, and my wife is Type A….

  3. Nancy says:

    I would pick LIVE.

It may sound silly but I can not put off living until I am thin any longer.

  4. Jamie says:

Yes, there is a Type B. And I am firmly ensconced in that camp along with you.

I don’t do resolutions, either. I am basically a gay, Protestant version of you!

I don’t have a particular word, but I have been working on deliberately setting my intentions, especially during my yoga practice. I have two main intentions I’ve been working on: “Clean mind, clean body” and “Breathe.” Although that could just as easily mean “focus.”

And I’m happy that you’re running. That’s been my athletic focus for the past two years, although I’m just now realizing that :-)

  5. Hanlie says:

My word for 2010 is NOW. Not the past, not the future, but this very moment. NOW is all I have and I get to decide how I feel and how I react.

  6. Bonnie says:

It was only after reading this post that it clicked for me why I adore your blog and start EVERY day here.

It is BECAUSE you are Type B (lol at that).

You aren’t frantic, obsessed, narrow-focused or a health nut.

You are my Fitness Guidance Counselor in a health mellow way.

    xo xo,

  7. Bonnie says:

    My word would be SLOW.

I need to become less harried and frantic.

  8. runnin4fun says:

GROW-2010 will be a big year for our family. My first born will go to college this year(sob)! Our whole family dynamics is gonna change. My son and I will have alot of growing to do.

  9. Jill says:

    My word is THRIVE!

  10. theantijared says:

And if anyone settles for less, they are short changing themselves.

  11. Xenia says:

2010 is a big year for me. I need to submit my PhD dissertation by year’s end. I’ll also be running my second marathon and shooting for a specific time goal. This is going to take a lot of motivation and focus on my part, so FOCUS would definitely be a good mantra for the year. I also like HEART and BELIEVE. I get a bit complacent or discouraged sometimes, so these would be excellent reminders for me that I am kick-ass and can do anything.

Good luck with your 2010 goals, Miz!

  12. Ali says:

    I am with Nancy.
How did I miss that and congratulations!!

    My word is CALM.

I need to learn to stop and think before I speak and channel the calm.

  13. Mari says:

You can’t live life without it…well you can - miserably

If you choose love, you choose life and every single part of its awesomeness (lol is that even a word!?)

Love make every single chore seem not like a chore…every day feel like when you have a runners high…there’s purpose in everything you do…and by having that positive attitude, everyone around you feels better too

  14. Joanna Sutter says:

I think my year is going to be devoted to more SPICE…but since that is 5 letters I will go with FIRE!

I need to light a FIRE under my..

    Job search
    Food choices
    Love life
Dreams and put them into action.

I suppose I better RUN and get my FIRE started!

  15. moonduster (Becky) says:

I’m loving everyone’s word choices and reasons for them! I have several that I would choose.

My mantra last year and this is “courage to dream” so both “courage” and “dream” work.

But I also am very optimistic about this year, so I like “blessed” too, because I believe that this year is going to be full of blessings for us all.

I also like “dance” because I believe it represents seizing the moment.

I’m a Type B like you, and I also need to stop procrastinating and get the work done towards making my dreams and goals a reality.

  16. Kate says:

“You are my Fitness Guidance Counselor.”

I am stealing that from Bonnie.

I will come up with my own word though :)

This is my year, Lord willing, to become a mom.

  17. Marsha @ Green Mountain at Fox Run says:

I’m going to choose Hanlie’s word: NOW. (She can win the ring.) Now speaks to me because I get so caught up in all the things I have to do (clearly not type B), I tend to get a little too esconced in the future and forget about living now. This is hard for me because I really enjoy doing what needs to be done to make things happen but there needs to be a balance. So maybe my word is BALANCE. Can I have two words? :)

    Great post as usual, Miz.

  18. Miz says:

LOVE MY EARLY AM PEEPS (although yes. I know for many of you its afternoon. please to not tell me that as I already feel behind in my day :) )

YES on the FITNESS MAG and I have a running update coming this Monday as well.

    I hope.

    Maybe? :)

    and this:

You are my Fitness Guidance Counselor

IM SO FREAKIN HONORED as, unbeknownst to most of you thats what I went to school for.

    in a way.

but thats a whole ‘nother post.

    The Tiny Dictator summons…

  19. girlxoxo says:

I’m very much type B too. My word for the year would be ORGANIZE. It was such a disaster last year, and although I have severe commitment issues - I think planning & staying on top of things are key for me this year.

  20. Christine says:

    My word is “jump.”

It stands for a desire to explore life, look into the unknown and go towards it, not away from it. I am starting a new phase of my life (hello real world, g’bye undergrad!) and it signifies just takin’ life by the horns, shakin’ it, and loving it every single day!

  21. Jessica says:

Live, Breathe, Run - I can’t just pick one!

  22. Natalia Burleson says:

Hmmm for me I would put choices. As in I have, I’m in control of, as in daily choices matter, tiny choices could have big consequences. It’s all about the choices I make/don’t make! Sometimes in life I feel trapped, it would be a reminder that just because you don’t like the choices you have doesn’t mean you don’t have choices. :) And now I’ve said that word so much that it just sounds weird!

I recognized that ring as my sister’s work as soon as I saw the pic. I’m so proud of my sis! No need to enter me in the giveaway.

Very thought provoking post! :O )

  23. Miz says:

I recognized that ring as my sister’s work as soon as I saw the pic. I’m so proud of my sis! No need to enter me in the giveaway.

YES MA’AM. your sister rocks. thanks for connecting us.

  24. kat says:

It is a very thought providing post. TRY. I’ve spent so much of my life giving up. I want to spend this year not giving up before I’ve really tried.

  25. Paige says:

    …in myself
    …in others
…that I can do anything I set my mind to

  26. Heather says:

My one word would be FAITH. As a reminder to maintain my faith in God and in myself for continuing to stay fit and healthy (there’s a little voice in the back of my head that says I’m going to get fat again! I wish it’d shut up so I can fully enjoy the day!).

  27. Karen says:

No as a plea as a reminder it is not a sign of weakness to ask for this.

Awesome post whether I win or not I have a new word for 2010.

  28. Jodie says:

My 2 words are RUN and FOCUS . My goal is to run a marathon. Great post.

  29. Sagan says:

Great giveaway; I have a total obsession with wearing mantras as well, particularly in jewelry form.

My word would be “free”: free to do whatever we choose to do. We ARE capable, and we have the abilities to follow our dreams and reach our goals.

…”Health warrior writer woman” doesn’t quite fit into the 4-5 letter limit ;)

  30. jenn says:

My word for 2010 is “TIGHT”

    Tight Body
    Tight Budget (!)
And running a “tight ship” at home and with my business

  31. Irene aka FitHungryGurl says:

No real changes can ever be made if you are not ready to give it your all and be consistent. Doing things every day is the only way I am going to be able to change my life.

If I had to choose a 4-letter or less word, it would have to be…

As in free(dom) from all the negativity and mental road blocks that try to get in my way.

  32. Fab Kate says:

This took a bit of thought. I admit, I first thought “try” … but then said to myself, “there is no try, only DO”. But I don’t think “do” quite captures it either.

    My choice?

because I think that most of the time what holds me back from DOING is fear.

  33. Dr. J says:

    Is Get-Through-It a word?? After last year, that’s all I’ve got :-(

  34. Trish @IamSucceeding says:

It would have to be LOVE.

Love myself…others and all things I do.

  35. Brandi says:

    Two Words for Me.

The same two words I had printed on the back of my running shoes.

There is no excuse for skipping a workout.

There is no excuse for eating when I’m hungry.

There is no excuse for not getting my classes planned out the day BEFORE I teach them.

There is no excuse for accepting less than awesome behavior from “THE GUY” or any other guy for that matter.

There is no excuse for not getting to church each week.

Ok, I think that’s enough to get the point across :)

    No Excuses in 2010!

  36. Jules - Big Girl Bombshell says:

    My word is LIVE!

  37. Teresa says:

How kind and generous are you to not keep the ring for yourself.
    You really didn’t get one?

I actually love the ring as is. I tend to be quite scattered as I go through my days and need more focus.

  38. charlotte says:

I love your interpretation of “run”! Like always you take a word that many would be afraid of and turn it around to be inspiring!!

I too an enamored of the personalized jewelry (now that we’re done having kids - I’d like to get a mother’s ring) so I’ll run right over to Tina’s etsy store and see if she does that sort of thing!

As for my word for this year? Book;)

  39. Teresa says:

    Just read everyone else’s comments.

You should change your tagline to:

    Your fitness guidance counselor.

    I like that.

You know, since you asked and all LOL!

  40. Ami says:

This is a great post and it’s making me really think about what I want 2010 to be about. I’ve set my goals, thought things through and planned to move toward my dreams, but boiling it all down into one word seems…well, hard.

If I had to choose, though, I would say DREAM. As in reach your dreams, focus on your dreams, dream BIG, hold on to your dreams, don’t forget your dreams, allow yourself to dream.

Here’s to a year filled with dreams both desired and fulfilled!

  41. Mara @ What's For Dinner? says:

    I love tina’s work… anyway… my one word:

No later, no Monday, no tomorrow… NOW :)

  42. Linda says:

I love it that you are running to your goals. That’s what we should all do! Why wait? Why not now? It puts us in the moment to know we must act decisievely and purposefully to get to our goals. Thanks for clearing out the cobwebs on this for me!

I chose “enjoy” and “forgive” for my 2 words.

  43. Jody - Fit at 52 says:

Miz, thank you for this very thought provoking post! I need to follow suit & ban the fear & move toward the light. No, we do not have all the time in the world, you are right!

I have 3 things that come to mind eight now for me:

    LUV ME
    I AM

My goal is to love myself more in 2010. It is also to find me & be happy with me & to start living vs. just be here but not present as you say!

I would pick one of those 3 words…

  44. MrsFatass says:

    Hmm. There are so many.

Can they squeeze GET OFF YOUR ASS onto a ring? No? How about CARDIO? Oh, not poetic enough you say? KICK ASS? Hmm, maybe no profanity on such a lovely piece of jewelry?

    Okay. Maybe this: FOCUS.

Yep. Stealing yours, and not just because I am locked in the basement. I choose FOCUS because I am tired of feeling scattered and half-finished. I am ready for greatness.

  45. Leah J. Utas says:

    My one word is Done.

Do is great, but it suggests the future. Done means accomplished, and if you’ve already said it’s accomplished then you’d best get it done so you aren’t lying.

  46. Tiffany says:

I would choose FAITH because I have to believe that everything will work out ok for me in the end, and that I shouldn’t stress about the little things. I need to enjoy life in the present moment.

A couple of reasons why I need faith:
    1. I will be graduating with my Master’s in May, but don’t have any inkling of what to do afterwards, or even IF I can find a job.
    2. My boyfriend has been studying in Asia for over a year now, and will be there indefinitely, as he might find a job there. Again, I am doubtful of my ability to find a job here, during this poor economic period, so how can I possibly find a job in another country where I don’t speak the language? I just want to be able to start my life with him as soon as possible, but it doesn’t seem like life wants me to do that.

  47. Elisabeth says:

I would have a difficult time deciding between REAL and PROUD. Maybe I would just make it REAL PROUD. lol.

  48. MizFit says:

D*MN you are all so freakin wise.
As Ive said before: the blogworld as a unit could solve ALL the worlds troubles if merely given the chance.

  49. Kelly says:

This is going to sound so selfish but my word is

I’m not one to take time for myself. I own one pair of jeans. My shoes are basically a couple of tennis shoes and some bad @ss rubber boots. I’m always in tee shirt and jeans and always put every one else’s needs in front of mine. I wait too long to get my hair trimmed. I’m out of shape.

This year I have made a commitment to do something just for me. It usually has to do with appearance as I am trying to take better care of myself. It can be as simple as putting some tooth whitening stuff on or some anti-wrinkle cream under my eyes. But I have to recognize and acknowledge something I do for me each day. It is motivating me in other areas: exercise, the food I eat.

I’m getting to know me all over again. It’s part of learning to love the person I am instead of waiting to become the person I think I should be.

  50. kathie says:

i think for me there is no bigger goal than the perpetual pursuit of true, unconditional, open-hearted

nothing reveals so much about ourselves while simultaniously allowing us to feed more and more into our collective than the near impossible goal of perfecting the art of love.

and something i’d be glad to be reminded of daily.

  51. mousearoo says:

There are so many times last year that life got me down and I wanted to just up and quit.

This year is going to be my year.

I am going to live each day to its fullest. Tell everyone that love them. Run with the energy and silliness of a child. Take risks.

    Today and every day.

  52. Gina Fit by 41 Maybe 42 says:

    Great words.

    Mine would be:

Sounds selfish, but after a decade of having three children, one miscarriage, and three moves, it’s always been about he kids, the husband, the packing, the selling, the buying, etc. I’m empty. I’m tired.

This year is for me. Waking early will be for me. Time alone to focus and ponder will be for me. I’ll gain strength. I’ll eat “cleaner.” I’ll form better habits. I’ll be more thankful. I’ll be a better person.

    Which, of course, benefits THEM.

  53. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says:

My word is HEAL. I’d like this to be the year my knee pain finally goes away so I can live, walk, and stand without pain. Really, there’s not much more to say than that.

  54. Dana (www.eatsleepgetfit.com) says:

    My word for 2010 is

This is how I feel when I stick to eating healthy.
This is how I feel when I stick to my workout plans.
This is how I will look at the end of 2010 and beyond!

    Ow. Ow!

BTW, I am so Type A!!!

  55. Lauren @ Team Giles says:

I love this Miz. Words can either build up or tear down someone and I love the thought of wearing something that builds you up. My word for this wear would be BRAVE. I was beginning to be brave in 2009with starting to run, this year 2010 I’m going to run my first half marathon :) yea!

  56. Tricia says:

    My two words would be:

The quote that has been most significant to me along my “get healthy” journey is the one at the top of my page.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”

I apply it to my running, to making healthy choices, to all of my goals. It all starts with “one step”. And it can all be accomplished “one step” at a time.

Ok, now you’ve got me fired up! :)

  57. Rose says:

My two words would be: 1) ME and 2) TRUTH.

This year’s my goals center around doing what’s right for me (and trying to stop caring as much about what other people think). The truth part comes in with the other people - I want to be open and honest with those who are close to me.

  58. joy says:

I have names 2010 the year to heal for me so that would be my word

  59. Amanda K. says:

    My word would be FIGHT

FIGHT with everything to be the person I want to be.
FIGHT to deny the pizza and doughnuts and ice cream.
FIGHT to live every day as if it were my last.
FIGHT my laziness and go to the gym or for a run.
FIGHT like hell to do the best I can at everything I do.
FIGHT to free myself from the prison that junk food has locked me in.
    FIGHT for ME.

I’m a lurker, but I thought I would chime in. I thought this was such a great idea! Love your blog!

  60. Dani says:

I’m going to change my body, change my career and change my financial status.

  61. deb roby says:

Believe in myself (so hard), believe in possibilities, believe in life.

  62. Gayle says:

I love what Amanda K above says about “fight”-ing. Fighting my demons. Fighting my ED. Fighting my guilt. Fighting to be a better mother. So FIGHT it is.

  63. Cindi says:

EASE - I want my life to be simple, enjoyable, peaceful, with room for my thoughts. I’m a type A so I need to always remind myself to NOT take on more but enjoy where I am.

  64. Nikki says:

I love this! You’re speak’n’ my language Miz!!

My word for the year which was chosen mid December is a made up word…”Detox-it”(my life that is) …from the toxins and poisons that have crept in and have been polluting…negative thinking, un-healthy relationships, poor food choices, etc

    Have a great day-

  65. Rebekah says:

I am becoming more present every day, and a lot of my success has to do with feeling good right now, focusing on what warms my soul in the present, and letting that propel me. It feels good!

  66. debby says:

DREAM. To remind myself to spend time dreaming..of new colors, new projects. Different ways to live. Its okay to dream.

    Thanks, Miz.

  67. Tara says:

My word for the year is YES! (with the exclaimation mark, of course).

YES! I can do it - anything! I can do anything that I set my mind to.

YES! I WILL do it. I will try anything now. Even if I don’t like it, at least I made the attempt. And trying doesn’t mean doing something once, it means really giving something a chance.

YES! I am open and ready for everything that’s coming my way. I am positive that all I need is my new positive attitude to make it (anything) happen.

YES! Is the sound I make whenever I accomplish something that I used to think was impossible and now believe to be within my reach.

    It’s a good word!

  68. Tonya says:

My goal for 2010 is to “LIVE”. I aim to live life to the fullest and enjoy every minute. Sometimes I get too caught up in the details and let life fly by. I am very Type A, and often don’t take the time to enjoy the good stuff.

  69. Lainie (Fit Fig) says:

It’s going to be a big year for me for change, just don’t know exactly what the change will be yet.

Fitness-wise I’m hoping to change my body post-baby.

Life-wise we are either going to buy a new house (and possibly a new car) or move to a whole new city very far away or do something else I haven’t even imagined yet. The hubby and I are getting antsy and that means hauling up stakes and radical change. I’m so excited! I’m not the kind to fear it.

  70. Ashley says:

    this is amazing :)
    my word is…

  71. Luann Abrams says:

  72. Tracey @ TropicalHappiness says:

    Mine would be LIVE LIFE

Love love love this giveaway!!!!!! I’ll be checking out the site for sure!

  73. Karen says:

To remind me its ok to be one.

  74. Kellie P. says:

    My word would be PUSH.

PUSH through my fears and do it anyway.
PUSH myself to higher levels of health and happiness.
And P.U.S.H. Pray Until Somthing Happens!!

  75. BK says:

At first thought it’s ACCOUNTABLE.. but since it has to be shorter..

    8 road races
    personal trainer certification

  76. Aine says:

    My word: SHINE.

And it even has 5 letters!

  77. Aj says:

My word is CAN. I always tell myself ‘i can’t while I am working out, eating, trying to sleep, come up with a new idea, etc. But you know what? When I actually LET MYSELF TYR, I can do anything I put my mind to. I CAN.

  78. Certifiably Fit says:

    My word is POWER.

As a reminder that I have great power inside of me to meet the challenges of my life. The power to choose, the power to think positive, the power to change my situation.

  79. Shelley B says:

You are so sweet to pass the ring onto one lucky reader!

    My word would be RUN.

    As in

    Go for a run
    Run with that idea
    Run away with my husband

It fits so many things for me!

  80. Missicat says:

hmmmm…..after this past year, my word will be LIVE.
As in live each day to the fullest extent!!!

  81. Meg says:

Oh man, only one word? I guess it would be: Do.

As in, Do or Do not, there is no try. This year I do. ^_^

  82. Julia says:

Yeah! Her jewelry is so cute. *Thumbs up* for handmade goods!

My two (short words) are BE ME

My “journey” is all about me. It may be selfish, but we all need to take time from our lives to focus on ourselves (physically and mentally.)

Goal for 2010: regain “who” I am and BE ME!

  83. junghwa says:

    live LOVE laugh

    thanks for wonderful giveaway!

  84. Tony says:

That’s my word for this year, and next year, and the year after that.

  85. Dre says:

    My word would be CHANGE.
2010 is a time for change to try new things, to allow myself to fully be who I am (unapologetically). Which involves changing my outside to match my insides.

I would put BRAVE on the ring though, because my grandpa told me when I was small that that’s what my name meant in Greek. It always stuck with me but I never believed it until very recently..and in order to change one has to be brave =)

  86. Get Fit After 40 says:

    To believe in myself again.
To believe I can make goal this year.
    To believe I’m worth it.
To believe I can do it.
To believe that I can finish what I started
To believe that I will find me.
To believe that I can love me again.

  87. Becky says:

My word would be LOVE as well.

There is no greater thing in all the world to enjoy, give, receive and strive for.

  88. Diana's Body Journey says:

I don’t want to be entered..mine is a larger word than possible. But, I thought I’d share anyway. As always, mine is believe. I’m even considering getting a light colored (white?) tatoo on my wrist to remind me to believe in myself and that I can accomplish what I set my mind to do.

  89. Jes says:

Oh My…let me begin by saying that this is really sweet of you to be doing this giveaway. One word with less than five letters to describe my 2010…

I am ready to live my life. I have put it aside to raise my family (which I dearly love), I have pushed away so many dear friends due to being unhappy with myself, my weight, and I have not had the courage or the self confidence to do the things that make me happy. I have abandoned my life and have become content sitting on the couch dreaming of what could be…

I want to live a life of passion, balance, freedom, and kindness while always being true to myself. Enjoying life in all of its glory!

  90. Mariam says:

    My word would be BREATHE

Breathe - to me means everything that i have forgotten to do..relax, stretch, enjoy, think, etc.
It means stepping down from that hyper stressful mode that seems to always make my days more and more stressful.

  91. Jessica says:

If I could have two words it would be…

    Live Life

I want to live my life…not waste it!

  92. 'Drea says:

I really like *focus* but now you have me thinking about just doing this as an activity to see how many precise, motivating words I can come up with.

    I think it’s cool that you’re mellow…Learned trait?

  93. Heather Marie says:

My mantra for the moment is ‘Leap into Love’…key words being *Leap* and *Love*
I am embracing the idea of letting go of who I am and leaping into a romantic type of love. Leaping requires complete trust not only in yourself, but in those around you. With that said, please enter me. “:0)

  94. Kimberlie says:

I would use your word too but because I have been lazy recently about running!!

    When is your race??

  95. Kelly says:

    My word is BEGIN.

I want to always remember that every day is the chance to begin again - whether it be with health and fitness, relationships, work. I can start each day fresh and do all I can to make it the best for me.

  96. Kim says:

Such food for thought. I think that right now I’d have to say

  97. Gee says:

ACTIVE…I’ve been sitting around *thinking* about things to do, and now it’s time to do them! Get up and be active! :)

  98. marzipan says:

Because sometimes nothing seems to make sense even though really it does and i’m having a panic attack. This year i’m going to work on trusting that I am capable, trusting I am loved, and trusting I am safe.

  99. Jessica says:

I LOVE all these words! My word would be “ALLME” Yes, technically two words - I’m a rule breaker - but I want to give myself credit for how hard I work and I did it ALL by myself :)

  100. michelle says:

I’m thinking of Yoda:(something like this) there is no try, there is only do and do not.

Too many words for the cute ring…instead I’ll go with FINISH

  101. workout mommy says:

    my word is ENJOY.

Enjoy the craziness that is my children. Enjoy their loudness and how they embrace life to the fullest.

Enjoy all the people in my life—knowing that life is way too short and can change on a dime.

  102. Cynthia Roberts says:

    my word would be :More

    Do more
    see more
    love more

    enjoy more
    wish more
    hope more
    Be more

  103. lz says:

    Thanks for this fabulous giveaway!

My word would be TRUST. I’m very Type A, very driven, and very determined, which is an asset most of the time but sometimes my goals cause me a lot of anxiety! So my goal for 2010 is to TRUST.

    trust myself
and know that I am doing okay, that everything will be fine.

  104. Eden says:

Hi! This is my first time here. Wow.

    My word would be:

    kind to my husband
    kind to my kids
    and kind to myself

  105. Jaime says:

    My word is BALANCE.

I’m taking the year to reBALANCE my life. To move away from a full time job to one that I can do without my kids in daycare. I’m BALANC(E)ing fitness and wellbeing, career and family, income and expenses,l motherhood and marriage… and that’s just the beginning.

This year will bring great changes and bring BALANCE to my life! Since BALANCE is too long for the ring, if I win, I’ll have to figure out what other word I will use!

  106. Jess @ Unsearchable Riches says:

My one-word motto is usually BELIEVE, but this year, it’s much simpler.

  107. Rachel says:

I would choose “Be Well,” because it really represents not only my 2010 goals, but my life goals, too. More than anything else, I want to be well, and I’m hoping I make a big dent in that this year :) A ring to look down at when my hand reaches for the cookie jar would help, haha ;)

  108. Grace says:

Thats the first one came to my mind

    fight the fear
    fight any stupid insecurities
fight the tendency to take my family for granted
fight the urge to be complacent n lazy
fight the mediocrity of any form in my life
fight the bad habit to procrastinate, think negatively, forget my blessings
fight to keep the things that are reason for happniness n harmony

  109. FLG says:

    My word for this year?

Future. This year, I work on my future.

  110. Nadine Randall says:

My word is BUILD. In 2010 I will be busy:

    Building a marriage
    Building a home
Building back my savings after my wedding!
    Building my speed and endurance
    Building my muscles
    Building my career portfolio

  111. Cindie says:

I had to think about this one all day. I have finally come up with one word to describe my 2010 goals….CHALLENGE. I spent 2007/8 losing 85 lbs and building myself into a runner. I spent 2009 maintaining my weight and doing my first triatlon. This year I need to challenge myself. I cannot allow myself to become complacent.

I challenge myself to run a 1/2 marathon
I challenge myself to lose another 10 lbs
I challenge myself to swim better than ever
I challenge myself to do the best at my job
I challenge myself to be a great mom

Thanks Miz, for always challenging me to think about what I really want and how to get there!

  112. stacey says:

i’ve been thinking a lot about this, and last year’s phrase/mantra that was always going through my head was ‘be kind to myself’ and i was. and i made a lot of positive changes and definitely started heading in the right direction.

this year, what’s been surfacing with me is this need to SPEAK.

to speak up. to voice what’s going on inside of me. to stop trying to silence fear and frustration and hurt and strangely, oppositely, happiness and hope and dreams.

i find myself sometimes not speaking up because i don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. or because i’m afraid. or because, and this seems crazy, but because i don’t feel like i have a right to be happy or excited about something.

and for years i’ve let being overweight or out of shape speak for me - it said everything i was afraid to. and kept me from saying lots of things i needed to. and now i’m not hiding behind extra weight anymore.

so this year will be about speaking up.

    so SPEAK. that’s mine.

  113. kelsnotchels @ kelseytoney says:

    As in “I am”.

  114. Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) says:

  115. Katie says:

My word for 2010 is balance. Balance in life, balance at work, balance in my head, balance in my commitments, etc. But that’s too long, so I would choose CALM. Because when I am balanced, I am calm. That is a beautiful ring!

  116. Carla Brantley says:

This is year I want to “BE ME”. Not who or what I think others want me to be, but ME. Being anything else has been exhausitng and counter productive for too long. The me I was meant to BE is the ME I want to BE!The ME I can be with the right healthy choices for ME.
BEIng ME will make ME more content than I have ever been and thus MORE for those I love and look forward to loving!
It all starts with ME and choices good for ME, better care of ME and along the way in 2010 I can maybe help others ot BE!!

    My words are

    “BE ME”.

  117. Katie says:

Man you totally stole my word! I would definitely choose RUN! Seeing as you already did I guess I’ll have to go with…RUN FAR. I want to see how far I can push myself (for myself), while maintaining a balanced family and work life. I want to be an awesome role model for my daughter and my husband by showing them that I can RUN FAR and still be a great mom and wife (and engineer).

  118. susan says:

a quick, “thank you”… your blog is great! i’ve been lurking and figured this was the perfect time to chime in given that i am determined that 2010 will be MY year!

i think my word is “faith”… but not in the typical religious sense of the word…

the faith i need is faith in myself… i know i can accomplish whatever i want, as long as i don’t get bogged down in fear of failure…

all i need is FAITH in myself

  119. Mary Meps says:

Follow the rising star. Grow. Keep going. Star has many meanings for me. Lend my light to others. Help them find their way. Keep my life lit up. Keep going. :-D

  127. POD says:

I don’t want a ring and don’t want to win but I’ll play the game.
I would like the word LAUGH or breathe or PRESENT or alive or don’t panic. Or NOEATINGAFTER6pm.

  128. Bella says:

The first word I thought of was INVEST. Invest, because 2010 is all about investing in myself.
I’ve landed an amazing career-advancing job & I have a fantastic relationship, but I’ve achieved that without really committing and investing much energy in me, I’ve only made half-hearted attempts to achieve my goals that are solely personal, not career related. So this year it’s about investing my free time in myself, not in extra work, investing Sunday afternoons in improving my brain by reading more, not watching TV, and investing, quite literally, some money in a bank so I can one day have a house deposit!

Unfortunately, invest has 6 letters, not 5. Perhaps I’ll choose FARM instead, because you need to invest time and energy, love and attention on everything you do if you are going to yield good crops and have a successful farm.

  129. GeorgiaMist says:

I WILL do what I need to do.
I WILL be what I want to be.

  132. Mikki says:

Ooops, I didn’t mention that my word is DONE by the way! (kinda obvious though).

  133. Christieo says:

My word would be Tri. Because Tri, to me, has become synoymous with the word “Try”. In fact, I’d take either one of those. I don’t care how hard it is, I just want to TRY. whatever happens happens. I’ve learned I’m up for it.

  134. terraFITNESS says:

I adore this work and the artistry and thought that goes into it. I LOVE the words that people are coming up with and explaining what they mean. If I could only choose one word to be my mantra for 2010… It would be
As an artist often times I get unfocused and lazy… it’s easy to go to my “normal” or “mundane” job and forget to exercise my creativity. I need to create art, create opportunities for myself, create happiness for others…

If I could choose 2 words… it would TOTALLY BE
DON’T PANIC or just the number 42

For all my Hitch Hikers Guide friends out there… you know what I’m talking about!

    It’s more don’t be afraid…
I have the answers if I just look for them…

I just need to get off my keester and start leaving FOOTPRINTS in the sands of time instead of BUTTPRINTS!

‘Wise Love’ is how I would like to describe how I wish to live the year 2010. I want all of my actions to be based off of love, the love I have my family, friends, the people around me, and the earth itself. Not the impulsive immature love we so often see running amuck and ruining one relationship for another, but the calm, reflective love that transitions and adapts slowly to each new thing introduced into our life.

  199. Mary @ Fit this girl says:

I do have things I am going to do “with resolve” this year and in looking over them, one word that comes to mind is: FREE.
Meaning? I want to be free:
    to be myself
    to live without fear
from old mind sets and old habits
to know where my freedom comes from
to release the past and start fresh
to know I don’t need things to live rich,
to know that in giving and in letting go, we get more than we could ever imagine!!!
    :) Thanks, great post!

  200. Cynthia says:

    My word is DO.

I tend to be a procrastinator and I’m really trying to change that this year. I think that if I can kick this, I can kick the weight thing, well, ANYTHING really!

And hence, I’m bouncing up off my ball chair to go DO something else now that I’ve left this comment! Besides, I want to get my walk in before the batch of brown/wild rice I just put to cook is ready.

  201. Jenn@slim-shoppin says:

My word would be this number:

This is going to be my year!!!

  202. Kyra (@KyraTX) says:

My word will be FORWARD. Because I want to stop going backwards in my goals. And since I’m clumsy, even if I trip, I’ll still be going in the right direction.

  203. Lu says:

my word would be live :)

  204. Christine says:

Ha! The word I’ve chosen for 2010 is actually “focus”. Not doing so well so far. Maybe I do need a constant reminder, like each time I look at my hand. :-) Thanks!

  205. suganthi says:

I can never choose one word.. how can I.. there are so many beautiful words,, lovely sentiments, a different set needed for each day. My word/words

    One word fest

    Two word TANGO

Two words that I fell in love with it from a tweet

    reckless enthusiasm

  206. barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) says:

At 35..it’s time to man up and become what I was meant to be. It’s time to face those fears/demons and move beyond them. It’s high time to grab ahold of what makes me happy and make it stick in my life…

I will believe in my fitness ability, my talent and my love.

  208. Michelle Frame says:

My one word is cherish. I will cherish my children while they are little so I will not have any regrets when they get older.

  209. Colleen says:

I am starting my own business this year, we open February 2010. So much work leading up to opening and so much more once we open. Hopefully, all I will do is work.

  210. Janine says:

HEAL is my word — from 38 years of living for work and family. It takes its toll. I am excited to have time to focus on my own health and fitness.

  211. G.G. says:

Choose to not be a victim.
Choose to not live the default version of my life.
Choose to be nicer, better, stronger, more loving.
    Choose myself.
If I find there’s something in my life that I wouldn’t “choose”-then CHANGE is the word.

  212. Jane S. says:

I really enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. My word for the year (and for the rest of my life) is LIVE. No more taking things for granted, appreciate every second of every day and even if something less than desirable happens, realize that experiencing it means I’m still alive and kicking!

  213. JoAnn says:

What a wonderful giveaway — thank you for hosting this.

My one-word mantra would be: LAUGH.

One of my favorite scenes from the movie Singing’ in the Rain is the “Make ‘Em Laugh” song that has such a great philosophy: if the world has got you down, just laugh (or in this piano player’s case, make people laugh) and just give it your all.
I’ve got to keep remembering that sometimes the weight of the world can be lessened with a little chuckle.

  214. Michelle C says:

My word for the year is Love.

  215. Rose says:

Wow, there are some really good choices on here. Ya’ll choose some amazing words and I love to hear why.
I think that one of my words would be PAUSE. I need to stop going all the time and just be in the moment.
My other word would be LAUGH. I need to do more of it and if I do that then other things would fall into place. [email protected]

Since Health is too long, I’d have to go with Live

  217. 266 says:

I thought long and hard about this, and even though it unfortunately wouldn’t work for the ring, I would have to say that my words are:

I am the individual who always manages to find a way to do what most people deem impossible. I am the one who believes that there is a way to accomplish any goal and who eventually makes things happen when everyone else doubts. Ultimately, despite the prevalent attitude of disbelief that others have, I am the possibilty itself.

  218. Caron Chester says:

I would chose either ‘focus’ (so I don’t have to keep reminding myself…I just have to look at my hand), or ‘faith’ or maybe even ‘life’. Decisions, decisions, decisions…..
I think it is a great idea; what a wonderful way to have possitive affirmations.

  219. roya says:

I really like the idea of having a one-word mantra to motivate me and wearing a ring to be reminded of it daily.

FOCUS on the ring is very applicable to me. As a college student, senioritis is really getting to me, and I need some FOCUS to devote the time and energy towards my school work. My goal this years is to mix up my work outs-instead of cardio all the time, add more strength training and yoga! Thanks for this wonderful giveaway!

  220. Melissa says:

    Mine is Balance.
Balance me time with family time and wifey time
Balance different forms of exercise as not to get stuck in a rut
    Balance friends and work, etc
Balance busy time and quiet time
Balance all aspects of my life.

  221. Damla says:

    My phrase is: MAKE REAL
I need to turn my dreams into reality.

  222. shiki says:

LIVE LIFE would be mine. Really true these days

  223. Kristin says:

My mantra is not necessarily one word, but an acronym: HTFU which stands for “Harden the f**k up.” Something I am constantly working on, mentally and physically!

  224. MooBeeTees says:

    My word is ENJOY.

Time is too short not to enjoy eveything you have around you; children, life, love, nature - the list goes on. It’s a little reminder to take the time to just stop and enjoy what I have :)

  225. donna says:

    LIVE…its perfect!

  226. Ronit says:

My word is HOPE. I just changed my life around and got a fresh start so it’s an inspiring word for me. :)

Also, I blogged about this giveaway! Here’s the link:

  227. Lisa says:

I hope 2010 will be FUN!

  228. Bindu says:

    My word would be LIVE

I’ve been living a life of make belief, of living for others, of acting, not that I’ve not been happy, but this year is to focus on myself, to slow down and be good to myself. This year I want to travel, to live, to thrive, to breathe, and yes, to focus.

  229. Marci says:

    My one word:

It’s my middle name and I’m too often full of sadness and depression. This year, I want to live up to my name and be full of JOY.

  230. G Kom says:

    My word: RESET
I wish 2010 will be a new start.

  231. Katie says:

I am SO UPSET that I missed this. I have been way behind in my blog readage. I blame it on the sickness and the car being towed 3xs in two weeks….I know, excuses, excuses…

Will you let me know where I can purchase one of these for myself? I absolutely adore it…..

P.S. Come to LA already!! ;)

  232. Eternal*Voyageur @ Venusian*Glow says:

    I want ‘splash’ too !

  233. Stella says:

    Miz fit,
I LOVE the idea of one focus word or a short phrase to sum up the goal of my year! And I like the different answers & comments you’re getting! Very thought provoking!…I guess mine would be RUN, since I am literally running, training for my first ever half marathon, and figuratively because I’m Running to get fit, running like a mad woman with 5 other people in my everyday life to manage, and running to make a success of my business!
So Thanks for the thought, and on that note…I gotta RUN…
