MizFit & the thriv performance top.

MizFit Muzings, Reviews

Hey FTC. The top was free. My opinion & muzings filled with HONESTY.

Ok, People, I realize it has seemingly been all about the running up in herre lately but thats about to draw to a close this weekend (*cue confetti shaped like MizFit having a panic attack*).

In addition, as I have yammered about time & time again, this whole half-marathon shebang is more about goal setting & revising my self-definition than anything else.

But I digress.

When I received the email from thriv offering me the opportunity to try their Cape Elizabeth racer-back top I was PUMPED!! interested.

Not only was I curious whether their product’s bamboo/organic cotton was as soft & wicking as it was purported to be—I loved the look of the top, too (I may run like an Awkward Princess but I can look stylin’ whilst doing so—yes?).

A few clicks later (pink, small, thankyouthankyou) & a few days later I was all set.

The Cape Elizabeth top looked precisely as described and, in fact, was far softer & “richer” feeling than Id imagined.

I yanked that thing on and was ready to run.

what did I like about the Cape Elizabeth racer-back top?

  • The fabric. The sport top was precisely as advertised.  The company touts the fact their products are natural yet perform like man-made fibers (wicking, anti-microbial, breathable & UV protecting).  To my running-delight I found this to be entirely true.
  • The color. Visually (more on this later).
  • The cut. I cant stand sport tops that are tight through the midsection or that ride up when I run/workout in general. I loved the cut of this top.
  • It’s quick drying. Im a creature of habit & when I like to wear something I *love* the ability to wash it after exercise and have it ready to go the next day.  Since this top was made of cotton I wasnt sure how fast it would hang dry.

What didn’t I like about the Cape Elizabeth racer-back top?

  • The size. Obviously this was an error on my ordering-part but I am typically a small (or a medium! just call me Wide Ribcage McGee) & in this top Id need an XS. I can definitely workout in the small (lifting weights/yoga/recumbent biking etc) but for running Id prefer an tighter fit.
  • The sheerness of the pink. Again, People, this one could entirely be me (and no. you may not refer to me as Nipples McGee.  Sorry.). The top was far too sheer for my comfort level which is the reason why I appear to be giving the ‘body language sign’ of “IM CLOSED” in the photo above.

Bottom line?

I really liked the top.

The cut & fabric were amazing & had I ordered an extra small in black I’m pretty certain Id be wearing it as I type this (MizFit note: Im at the local coffee shop which is kindasorta a sheer-free zone) because these guys are already in my virtual shopping cart.

I love the fact that it wouldn’t creep up on you when working out. My rolls could jiggle and not be announced as the next side show at the gym.

    nipple showing…that’s a different story.

  2. Workout mommy says:

Cracking up over nipples mcgee comment!

I like that it is a racerback. :)

  3. 266 says:

I love bamboo!!! I made my husband’s wedding shirt out of that material and it really is SO soft!

Congrats on doing your ten miler earlier! I was late to the party to comment on that one, but thought I’d mention how proud I am of you here!

  4. Rachel says:

    Girl you are too funny!
I love the way you write and, if I could look like you do in that top, I’d not be worrying about my nipples :)

    Did you get the black?

  5. MrsFatass says:

If I can’t call you Nipples McGee, can I just call you Nips for short?

  6. Nancy says:

    Hi Miz,

This is helpful to me as I have just now started seeing thriv and wondered about the fit of their clothing.

Do you know if the bottoms run big as well?

    Thank you,

PS You know I had to click on your pictures. Did thriv make the shorts you have on??

  7. Helen says:

I love how it hangs on you and isn’t tight across the belly.

    What was too big?

  8. MizFit says:

Man, I love my early riser/different timezone peeps :)

*No I didnt get the black…YET :) and am not sure about the bottoms and sizing! good question. I shall ask…

*”too big” I adored the looseness in the torso which I think will still be there in an xs. I did want a bit more support for my tiny tatas (yesIsaidit) which I know will be there in an xs.

*ahh the shorts. They are NIKE. They are what Im THINKING about running in. They terrify me as I fear if I yank OFF the tutu I will be fretting about them too much to run well (the riding up factor)

  9. Jessica says:

I think it is really cute! Looks really comfy.

  10. Bea says:

    As you say: no words.

    You are hilarious.

  11. Natalia Burleson says:

Hey Nipples McGee! Oh, wait, you said NOT to call you that..my bad! :) I kinda thought that’s what the front pose said.

It’s very cute on you, but I get the whole nipplegate thing!

  12. Alissa says:

    Love that top! Very cute!

  13. Hangry Pants says:

“I’m closed.” Definitely used that pose myself.

  14. Trish @IamSucceeding says:

I LOVED the top and I will wear such things one day…in public :)

  15. Eve says:

I’m back to add that I’ve explored their site. Very green!!

I love your erviews for you honesty.

  16. Jody - Fit at 52 says:

I would love the black.. like you said… the nipple stuff. I don’t get all these makers making white workout shirts.. they must be men!!!!! :-) Every time I have a gift cert, all I can find is white & I ain’t doing nipples in the gym even if they are small boobies!

    You look fantastic!

  17. Diana('s Journey) says:

That is really, really cute! Too bad it showed a little too much MF. The black I’m sure would be great, but again…too bad the pink didn’t work :( I wonder if the darker pink would have the same problem…hmmm.
    Thanks for the info!

  18. Diana says:

Just a couple commens. Your body is amazing! You look fabulous…in any top.

Second, cute top but it looks a little big on you. Maybe nipple pads??? :)

  19. Sagan says:

It looks lovely! It’s nice to find a good quality top like that. So cool that it’s made from bamboo too.

  20. Jen, a priorfatgirl says:

Hey have you done measurements this past year? Is it just me or have you been getting even more toned this past year? You always look just as beautiful on the outside as you do on the inside!

  21. Elisabeth says:

I recently tried one of these new-fangled “bamboo” performance shirts as well (although a different brand), and I was very happy with the softness of the fabric. I’m actually wearing one for the PRINCESS 1/2. I can’t believe that thing is less than a week away. Eek!

  22. Gigi says:

If I were a runner, I’d totally go for this top - sans VNL (visible nipple lines). You are too funny.

  23. the Bag Lady says:

Regardless of the nipple factor, that top is adorable!

Good luck this weekend - in case I don’t get a chance to say it again before then… on the other hand, you can’t say something like that too often, can you? Good luck, good luck, good luck…..! :)

  24. Aubry says:

Don’t take this the wrong way. I admire how you said last week you won’t do affiliate link and all yet you seem to be making other people a lot of money with your posts.

You might need to consider that.

  25. Abby says:

I agree with you about sheer tops. I’m overly self conscious about too tight/too sheer. But the top is really cute!

  26. Leah J. Utas says:

It looks comfortable. You look happy in it.

  27. Alyssa says:

    Very nice!

(Still snorting my OJ over Nipples McGee)

  28. deb roby says:

Wow. Odd. To me in your back picture this top looks like it fits too tightly. I thought that was why you had the arms folded.

You think this is too loose?

I love the feel of cotton/bamboo fabric -so incredibly soft- though I rarely purchase it as the steps involved in turning bamboo into soft cloth are NOT very green.

INTERESTING!! I shall look into this, Deb. thanks!

Good luck next weekend on your Princess 1/2 marathon.

  29. MizFit says:

I ADORED the loose in the torso as that’s far more comfy for me than tighter workout tops (Im a sweater. ’nuff said) it was the loose in the boobage-area (technical term) that I didnt love.

There’s a built in shelf-bra but I think I need an xs to best fill it.

we are discussing my boobs today.

  30. Karen says:

I’d love to check out those shorts you linked, too.

That plus a soft bamboo top is my dream workout outfit.

    Thanks for the sizing tip.

  31. thriv says:

We are so very glad that you enjoyed your top, and hope it sees many more runs. It really is great to hear from the most active and most vocal that we’re doing something right here, and we cannot thank you enough for your feedback as it allows us to better serve athletes.

    As for your concerns:

We’re working on the sheerness of the fabric in light colors, and hope to have it worked out for future collections. For now, those concerned about modesty can’t go wrong with darker colors, as you suggested. :)

We are working on our own online store, and pinpointing better sizing guidelines and information for our potential customers.

See you at Fitbloggin’! We are providing the conference tees, so all attendees will get to try out our fabric!

  32. Lori (Finding Radiance) says:

That does look big on you, but then you already look pretty tiny!

  33. charlotte says:

Thanks to nursing, my nips are like pencil erasers these days! Even with 2 bras, I’m still Nipples McGee. Sigh. Plus light pink is a little too close to my flesh tone for my comfort;) But those compression shorts look super cute & comfy!

  34. suganthi says:

    Sheerness.. no way..
it is a big NO no for me. :)

  35. Mary Meps says:

It seems to be a trend in shirts lately … material so thin everything shows through. Like we’re not even dressed. Yikes! I know there’s a recession, but … LOL

Sheerness is out for me, too. I am so not a skin gal. Sounds comfy though. And I do like pink.

  36. Geosomin says:

I’m liking the torso looseness on that. I find a lot of shirts are tighter and ride up on me. I like the back of it - no wierd back shoulder tighty wierdness that happens for me on some things.
    I think in a non-pink I’d like this…

  37. Kat says:

    Tee hee. Giggles, just giggles.

  38. Alicia says:

I LOVE the look of that top. I just registered on their website. LOVE IT!

  39. love2eatinpa says:

thanks so much for the review! it sounds really comfy! er, roughly how much do they cost?

  40. Cynthia (It All Changes) says:

Sheer shirts are not my kind of thing either. I was wondering about your body language in the picture until you described.

  41. PTG says:

They look cool…I just don’t like racerbacks though (for me) because I have to wear mamajama bras…

But sheerdom is horrid. My favorite color shirt (orange) by UA is sheer…and it drivesme nuts every time I wear it!

  42. POD says:

After (at my age!!) having a “nipple conversation” just yesterday, I am totally in favor of not having people (Men) stare at them while having a conversation with me. Based on my last relationship, he would have said if he could see your nipples that meant you wanted to go to bed with him. Of course we both know he was delusional - based on everything I ever told you. ha!
Black could be nipple proof but the pink is very pretty. I love racerback anything and would probably take a size huge in this brand.

  43. Jess says:

Good luck with the half marathon!

I dig the top, but don’t like the back. However, as long as it’s comfortable…

And, just wanted you to know, I aspire to have biceps like yours. Dang girl.

  44. scubagrrl says:

Does it have a built in bra? Cause even w/my small b’s I’d want a bra and that would cover any sheerness.

  45. MizFit says:

it does. and Im exactly the same way :)

  46. Jen-JensFitnessTips.com says:

Great top!! I love the cut and everything about it!! It looks light and comfy!! Good luck on your half marathon!

  47. tony says:

I totally understand about the sheer thing! But this is a thumbs-up on your arms - awesome in the best sense of the word!

  48. Jill says:

That definitely looks comfy, but personally I’d go for the black…I’m not much for pink. :)
