some big TWITTER MAYHEM (if by “mayhem” you mean ya’ll can WIN FREE STUFF—which I do).
Ahh Biggest Loser.
I wont lie to you and say Ive been a rabid fan—but there was one story which stuck in my mind even though the contestant wasn’t a winner (in their books. we all know what I think about being a winner in our own minds).
Shay Sorrells is a wife and mother of two small children.
She was in foster care from age 5 to 18 & credits that experience with sparking her lifelong struggle with emotional eating.
When Shay started the show she weighed in at 467 lbs. and was the biggest woman to ever step on the Biggest Loser stage.
For that and other reasons she had faced myriad challenges & almost threw in the proverbial towel her very first day.
But she didnt.
Hope, tenacity, and an unflagging desire to create a healthier life for herself and her family made her stay.
While she wasn’t the (finger quotes) winner (unFQ) Shay shed an astounding 172 lbs. while on the B. L. campus.
She inspired me.
I know she inspired some of you.
I watched how she inspired many men, women & children around the country.
Shay also inspired Subway & they stepped up and offered her a personal challenge: for every pound Shay lost in between the Season #8 finale and the Season #9 finale Subway is matching the pound with an $1,000 gift to her (MizFit note: here’s where Im compelled to add that I hope Shay chooses to donate some of her potential winnings to charity.).
During the Biggest Loser Season #9 finale (May 25th 8p-10p EST) Shay will weigh in for the first time since Season #8.
In celebratoryanticipation of this, Subway is throwing a twitter party & Ive been asked to be a panelist so this is where I tweet Shay my great idea about charitable giving.
I’ll be tweeting along with a panel of others (you can find the list here) talking about healthy living, exercise, weight loss, and, of course, a smattering of sandwich chatter.
And yes.
There will also be prizes (everything from an interview with Jared to an ipod shuffle).

Because really, even if youre a diehard Twitter hold out, you can totally slink in for one night & disappear never to Tweet again.

Talk about motivation to lose. If she drops enough she could finance her kids’ college education. Or part of it. I didn’t watch Biggest Loser that year, but I am this season. I’ll be cheering for her!
I hope she does well with her challenge - she’s definitely had to face more than her share of challenges already. I’ll be at work (sigh) during the finale - will come home to the show on DVR and catch up then. Not sure I’ll do the twitter thing as that would spoil it for me since I won’t be watching live (sigh).

Oddly, I don’t want to win any of the prizes - the only one I’d really use is the Dick’s Sporting Goods. But a night of talk and fun will be great.

I do not watch the biggest loser. I do like Jered and get salads from Subway. Did you know they are owned by Doctor’s Inc?
I lost track of TBL, but her story is amazing.

I don’t have a twitter…but I am curious to see how it ends. I’m inspired by Shay despite some issues I have with BL.

You know I don’t Twitter Miz & I am afraid to sign up as I may start using it & I am already not doing things I need to do beyond blogging. You know & have written about that! Saying that, I can’t wait to see Shay. She actually lives near me although I have never seen her out & about… who would have thought in this crowded place called southern CA!

I had forgotten about Shay and the Subway challenge. I haven’t watched Biggest Loser this season but, I will have to remember to view in on the finale to see how Shay did.
Shay has a great story. I wish her the best. I quit watching BL some time ago. I don’t agree with their approach and they were crying all the time. All the time.
Still, I shall root for Shay to find her dream life. She deserves it. We all do.
I think I may be one of the few who have never seen the show, although with all the chatter about it, I *feel* like I have.
But what a great story! And so cool that you’re one of the Twitter Party panelists, Miz!
Love you, love Shay, love love LOVE this season of TBL (all seasons, but this one especially) … but I’ll have to avoid Twitter and Facebook and the vast majority of the internet in general Tuesday night since we won’t get to see the show until Wednesday morning. Have fun, though!
